Beauty and the Bible

I’ve had a few requests for another post about beauty… thus this post was born. I’m very happy with it, I really felt God speaking to me and I know you will be blessed. You can read my other posts here –> Everlasting Beauty and Beauty Reflected

Do you remember a time before you knew the Lord, and you had a friend, family member, coworker or classmate that always seemed to shine? They always smiled and had a countenance of beauty, whether they were dressed up or not, had no makeup on etc.? I did, she always seemed so happy and… sunny. Thanks to social media we are now reconnected, and to my surprise she is a believer. After I thought about it tho, it made sense, of course she is. I remember how she didn’t smoke, or swear or party with us crazy kids, but I still liked her, and tolerated her eternal smile (which I now wear on my face lol). Back to the point, when Christ lives inside of you, there is a supernatural beauty within you that does not go unnoticed by others.

Now let’s see what’s up with Beauty and the Bible…

Psalm 27:4 “One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.”

The word tells us over and over in Psalms and other places, that the Lord is beautiful. I’m sure we all picture Him glowing, and gorgeous, a vision of peace and love. But let’s not forget what Isaiah prophesied concerning Jesus human form…

Isaiah 53:2b “He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.”

Jesus was not an attractive guy, He had no beauty in physical form. That is what the scriptures mean when they say He humbled Himself when He came to the earth. He also humbled himself by not displaying His full power. In Matthew 26:53 He said “Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?” Jesus still had the power but inside, and we glimpsed this power over and over in the gospels. Just the same, even though He is beautiful, (like heavenly beautiful!) He chose a form with no earthly beauty.

1st Peter 3:3-4 “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”

I used to get hung up on this becuz I love jewelry and fancy clothes (tho I’m not opposed to a hoodie and jeans) all it’s really saying is that these things should not be your beauty, they should not define your image. Ideally you should have as much confidence when your all decked out as when your in hoodies and jeans. But where not just talkin confidence here ladies, yes confidence is attractive and beautiful in worldly standards but were talking supernatural standards!

Isaiah 61:3 “and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.”

One of the famous passages in Isaiah, this scripture is a perfect example of the heavenly beauty I’m talking about. The Lord giving a crown of beauty to the people of Zion becuz which represents Him giving us our heavenly, eternal inner beauty when we accepted Him into our hearts. The goodness, holiness, the joy, the compassion, the gentleness, all of those gifts and fruits we have inside of us is the substance of beauty. It’s the presence we carry, the presence and character of God. It’s the glow on the face of a friend who carries Jesus with her, it’s the love shown that soon softens hearts. It’s the integrity and authority we see in the Proverbs 31 woman, the courage and boldness Esther displayed. The conviction of Deborah, and submission of Sarah, who was desired even in old age. The world might not see the difference between the two beauties but we know.

One last thing I would like to mention before I wrap this up. Some of you (and I speak from a past of being bound in guilt and shame) may not think that you carry all or any of this beauty, maybe your caught in a sin, or you just cussed out someone in your family (let’s be real here), maybe you have been angry at God or have fallen. This does not mean that you are not beautiful, becuz just like Jesus did, you carry that beauty inside, in your spirit.

I still don’t see it, some may say, or maybe you can’t see it in another believer, maybe you feel like your not pretty enough to let this beauty shine through, but this is what the Lord showed me…

How is it that we call God beautiful when we have never seen Him?

The answer is Godly beauty transcends the body of mere mortals, it goes beyond the senses, the physics of this world. It consumes molecules, yet is mirrored in creation. It lives in heaven, it is alive, and it lives inside of you, down to the very marrow of your bones.

Song of Songs 2:2 “Like a lily among thorns is my darling among the young women.”

You’re beautiful so walk with your head high, and the humility that you carry the beauty of god with you everywhere you go ❤

Everlasting Beauty

In our culture today, it seems that we only seek, and praise beauty that is temporary. We buy, sell and advertise the quick way to become a slimmer, prettier version of ourselves. What were unknowingly doing is producing, and feeding a collective subconscious life, the life of a beauty contest; and there’s only one winner in a contest… Now I’m not criticizing beauty pageants, and I love fashion, and all things glitter.. TRUST. What I’m saying, is we can’t forget that what we wear, and how we look, will always change with the season, and with time. Temporary beauty.

Proverbs 31:30 “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”

…. Kind of a downer huh?? I mean, no one wants to think about getting old and our flesh “maturing”… But even the most beautiful woman in the world, could loose her beauty in the eye of the beholder, before it’s time.

Proverbs 11:22 “Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.”

Discretion according to google is “The quality of behaving or speaking in a certain way as to avoid causing offense or to reveal private information.”

What this Proverbs is saying, is that even though a person may have great beauty, once you have experienced a betrayal or saw something inside them that would cause pain, their image changes greatly. Temporary beauty.

No one person will ever achieve perfection of the soul…

But continue to stand firm in your faith, and follow God with passion. You were already made perfect in your spirit thru the sacrifice and resurrection of Christ, don’t listen to the lies of the enemy telling you your not enough. Whatever you’re struggling with, rest in His promise that He will make all things beautiful in His timing.

Seek the beauty in yourselves, and others, not the beauty that can fade, but beauty that is everlasting. 🙂

Beauty Reflected

Cheeta DressWe’ve all seen her… or maybe we are her?? That girl who seems to have coordinated her entire outfit, everything from her pants to her purse. She is trendy (tho maybe not in your opinion), and with that outfit she can’t help but stand out. Maybe the thought never crossed your mind, but this girl is an artist =) So what do people think when they see this girl? I’ll tell you. They judge her according to her style, along with their own individual perceptions and/or stereotypes. In other words, whether they mean to or not they assume who she is by what she wears.

This is good news for us Christian gurls.. Why?? Well like my Granny always said, whatever goes on in heaven (in the spiritual) will come to be here on earth. For example look at the Proverbs 31 woman, who is “clothed with strength and dignity”, she had her own style inside just like you do. See, people arn’t just looking at the clothes you wear on your body when they see you, they are looking at the clothes you wear on the inside, or your “Inner Clothes“. The good news? You are a walking billboard for God. An advertisement in a beauty magazine for the kingdom of heaven.

YIKES!! Maybe your thinking of some things you should work on, (I’m thinking about a few of my own things, trust lol) but don’t press the panic button and beat yourself up. Unlike your typical beauty magazine, we are an imperfect image of perfection (perfection being the finished work of the cross A.K.A. Jesus in you). People need to see we are normal, we have faults and we accept ourselves the way we are, because when they see that they will know that God accepts them the way they are!!!

So don’t be afraid to be yourself, to be who God made you to be. As you do that, all the amazing qualities God put in you come out! I speak to all the sisters out there reading my post… Don’t be timid about who you are/your “Inner Style“, if you want to rock a real Gucci purse then do so without a second thought. If you want to wear sweatpants’ to the grocery store, have at it. This is my point, you cannot beat a genuine heart, and that’s what God uses to impact those around us. So be yourself and wear your “Inner Clothes” like your on the catwalk (Yeah on the catwalk, yeah)!! ONE LOVE ❤
