Beauty in the Fall

Bright golden yellow leaves, the tree would not go unnoticed. Once her eyes looked in the trees direction, it was the only thing she could see. The color had a life of it’s own, the tree was simply a carrier of that life. After the yellow gold settled in her vision, the realization of it’s temporary beauty came to her, giving her a deeper appreciation for the tree.

Something so captivating, yet something so temporary it would be dulled out within a matter of days, or the leaves would fall to the ground, dulling in the dirt. Trees in the fall was her favorite thing, at least one of them. She had always loved nature, especially trees, but something about the changing colors of phoenix red, and autumn gold made her more happy than usual. She wondered at the numerous brightly colored trees she had seen in her lifetime, and how each fall the colors fascinated her, as if it was the first time she looked at them.

Slowly her eyes adjusted to the trees bright golden yellow, slowly her thoughts came back to reality. Not that the tree wasn’t real, but that it’s beauty had such a pull, it allowed her to escape her own reality, if only for a moment. Too many troubles to remember, too many heartaches to handle. The tree was far more appealing, bringing her thoughts of crisp apples, juicy and sweet.

She took a deep breath in through her nose, appreciating the tree one more time before she drove off. A deep breath out, and she turned the key. Life is not all ugly and darkness she said aloud, and was thankful she could turn to the beautiful things in creation, to lighten the load she carried, it was the little things that reminded her she wasn’t alone.

Song of songs 2:3

“[ She ] Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest is my beloved

among the young men. I delight to sit in his shade,

and his fruit is sweet to my taste.”

Psalm 1:1-3 & 6

“Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
    whatever they do prospers….

…..For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.”

Revelation 22:2

“On each side of the river stood the tree of life,

bearing twelve crops of fruit,

yielding its fruit every month.

And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.”

Single Mom

The day was cold, and dark. There was no light, the gray clouds held back the sunshine. Rain and thunder was a promise.

“Every curse turns to a blessing” the widow thought sitting and looking over her dry and thirsty field. She had sat there before and cried over her struggling land, as it failed to be fruitful every season. If only she could heal it with those tears. But it felt like all she could do was toil with the seed left to her by a shadow of her past.

Now the storm is here, and though most will fear it, and take refuge in their homes, the PicsArt_1434750064916widow will stay in the orphaned field, singing and comforting the young plants through the storm. She knows one day they will be tall and grown, giving food for many people. She knows that the pain and patience she sows will reap a harvest.

Proverbs 23:10-11
“Do not move an ancient boundary stone or encroach on the fields of the fatherless, for their Defender is strong; he will take up their case against you.”

Note: I recently edited this post but the core of it is the same. I am a single mom as you may have guessed and have been through hell and back on my journey. This scripture in proverbs inspired the story, and gave me hope. Sometimes as a single parent we can feel the lack of a father or mother like a wall is missing in our house. In good weather and sunny season it is not missed, but when trials and hardship with our family comes the exposure to the elements feels life threatening.

If you are a single mom hold tight to this scripture for your defender is strong and he will multiply the work of your hands. ❤ God Bless
